Andrew Chase Software Development « Undead Voxel Arcade – A Co-op Survival Game Undead Voxel Arcade is a co-op twin- Throughout this project, I’ve further team up to defeat waves of undead these core components are individually stick shooter in which one to four players monsters to complete each stage and get high scores on the leaderboards. This project was developed over the course of eight months, in which I implemented engine and gameplay systems along with a framework to tie them all together and create an arcade experience. My main goal for this project was to demonstrate the broad technical knowledge I’ve learned over the course of the SMU Guildhall program, with core concepts covering areas including but not limited to rendering, physics and collision, artificial intelligence, audio, user interface, and gameplay systems. Creating a game is the best way to demonstrate this knowledge, as the artifact itself serves as a real-world example of these components working together. 80 SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT developed my understanding of how designed and implemented as well as how they work together to create complex behaviors and functionality. I’ve learned how this interconnectedness of systems creates the features we know and love and how it builds custom gameplay experiences. Having this general awareness of game anatomy is incredibly important for developers of all disciplines, as it gives context to how their contributions fit into the entire game while also providing guidance when it comes to solving problems or adding new features.
