Mario Rodriguez Production « Defining Player Goal Orientations and Video Game Self-Efficacy using Angry Birds For my thesis, I wanted to find out what relationships between goal orientations the psychological constructs of goal sample size of performance goal- types of relationships exist between orientations and video game self-efficacy. Additionally, I wanted to tie this to video games by using Angry Birds to see if the performance in the game differed depending on the player’s goal orientation and video game self-efficacy. I chose this topic because these constructs are rarely used in video game studies, so therefore there was an opportunity to potentially make new discoveries. The study took approximately six months to complete. Each participant played the game for a 15-minute session. The player’s game performance consisted of the total number of levels completed and total number of stars obtained by each participant. I found that there were no 56 PRODUCTION and their game performance. The small oriented people, however, limited the analysis of data, and we could not find any statistically significant relationships between performance goal orientation and any other variable. On the other hand, we did find a significant relationship between the learning goal orientation and video game self-efficacy. This study was a step in the right direction for the industry because we can see how goal orientations are related to video game self-efficacy. This relationship can be used by game developers to design game ideas or features that cater towards certain kinds of players.
