Shipwrecked Spaceship with Undersea Overgrowth and Dynamic Weather System
My graduate thesis project showcases an Unreal 5 environment featuring the Slave-1 spaceship from Star Wars shipwrecked in an underwater coral reef . The environment shows the ship ’ s wreckage amidst artificial coral formations . The scene contains a dynamic weather system , transitioning from a serene underwater ecosystem to chaotic vortexes , sandstorms , and fire tornadoes .
Driven by my love for science fiction and marine biology , this project showcases my skills in translating concepts and reference into realized game art . The process of creating coral overgrowth helped my ability in creating a unique environment scene . After working with something unique like a coral reef , I can use the skills learned to translate over to both other real and fictional environments .
Learning how to better study and model vehicle destruction improved my storytelling abilities as an artist , and my ability to better lay out an environment . Learning to create a dynamic weather system improved my ability as a technical artist , giving me answers to an array of unique challenges that needed solving .
This project marks personal and professional growth , refining my abilities as an artist being able to demonstrate proficiency in organic and hard-surface modeling with custom VFX and blueprints for dynamic weather systems . It equips me with the technical acumen to excel in various roles , from modeler to technical artist . I feel I proved myself by handling a project of this scope , and I have newfound confidence to continue my journey as a game artist .
