Dynamic VFX and Organic Destruction on Realistic Characters
In my thesis , I explored the integration of dynamic visual effects ( VFX ) and organic destruction mechanics with realistic characters , utilizing Unreal Engine 5 . The project demonstrated two intricately detailed characters in interactive combat scenarios , emphasizing advanced procedural animations and real-time environmental reactions .
At the core of my work was the development of an organic destruction system inspired by the ‘ Doom ’ giblets technology , which effectively simulated gore and dismemberment in a realistic manner . This system was complemented by dynamic VFX that reacted naturally to interactions between characters and changes within their environment , such as varying blood effects and debris influenced by combat dynamics .
I developed procedural materials and shaders that heightened the realism
of characters ’ appearances and their interactions with the environment , adjusting textures and effects to reflect the conditions of battle . Additionally , I engineered distinct animation systems for different weapon classes , which influenced the characters ’ movements and interactions significantly .
A complex boss AI combat system was also designed , which adapted its tactics in response to player strategies , offering unique and challenging encounters that tested the capabilities of the dynamic VFX and destruction systems .
This project not only pushed forward the graphical fidelity and interactive possibilities of gaming but also provided a scalable model for enhancing character realism in real-time simulations through Unreal Engine 5 .
