Best Practices : Utilizing Lock and Key Systems to Affect Flow
The goal of this thesis project was to explore best practices for using lock and key mechanisms in a game , creating a perpetual flow state for players . These mechanisms combine to form various lock and key systems with different levels of difficulty , through which players can learn and improve their skills bit by bit , resulting in a better overall gaming experience .
The project spanned nine months to accomplish . The included research is significant for enhancing the author ’ s level design skills and can be applied directly to the level design process as a practical method and experience . Additionally , the research findings can serve as a foundation for future research in this area .
To optimize the player ’ s experience in a game , the flow must be carefully considered . The player ’ s ability to gradually improve their skills is crucial to maintaining a positive experience throughout the game . Through puzzle design , this thesis aims to examine the impact of lock and key systems on level flow , with the goal of identifying effective design methods and key principles to enhance the flow of gameplay .
