Best Practices : Application of Difficulty Curves for Ambush Design
My project goals were to identify patterns from different games and use them to make an impressive ambush combat experience , while using three parameters concluded from various ambush situations to control the difficulty of the ambush . I also studied whether the difficulty curve was consistent with the design and how well these three parameters work in controlling an ambush ’ s difficulty through the playtest .
This project establishes best practices for ambush design , which are valuable resources for the people who want to build up impressive ambush combat . I learned how to control the difficulty of the ambush through various elements , which helps me to make the player enter the flow state much easier .
I spent approximately 100 hours refining my scope and conducting initial research , around 150 hours creating the level design document and building the artifact , and roughly 100 hours completing survey design , playtesting , data analysis , poster creation , and writing the post-mortem .
This project could help level designers to create interesting ambush combat by referring to the patterns I used and controlling the ambush ’ s difficulty through the best practice parameters I established .
