Historical Recreation and Destruction of Zhou Zhuang
My thesis consisted of two scenes : the well-preserved Zhou Zhuang under the setting sun and a destroyed version of the Zhou Zhuang . In the damaged scene , a giant black hole appears in the sky . The environmental elements are sucked into the air , and all houses , bridges , and platforms show varying degrees of damage .
My thesis aimed to study the recreation of the historical site based on ensuring the scene ’ s authenticity , creating realistic structural destruction based on the environmental assets I created , and visualizing abnormalities in the scene using materials and blueprints . The artifact was developed based on feasible work pipelines and performance-proven methods .
I chose this as my thesis because I wanted to better understand how to
create a realistic game scene and to learn how to aesthetically combine the massive dilapidation in the scene with its atmosphere in order to create an epic environment . After nearly 500 hours of thesis production , I have gained a better understanding of the production pipeline from 3Ds Max and ZBrush modeling to Substance 3D Designer and Substance 3D Painter texturing , as well as of the asset integration process in Unreal . I now also better understand how to use Unreal materials and actor blueprints to create dynamic materials for the environment .
The methods I developed can fit any other historically-based environment creation and destroyed assets creation . Combining dynamic material with destruction can enhance the visualization of the scene and create a better atmosphere for the environment scene . Players will have a better sense of immersion while playing .
