Transformer Transformation and Destruction
My thesis artifact is a hard surface and organic surface integrated vehicle with mechanical functionality rigging ( dynamic rigging ) and real-time surface destruction . The three masteries I undertook were the destruction of the vehicle in Unreal Engine 4 , vehicle modeling ( hard surface and organic surface integration ), and dynamic rigging combined with mechanical functionality rigging ( transformer animation ). The goal of this artifact was to research hard surface and organic surface modeling techniques and implement them together to achieve professional modeling skills for vehicle modeling .
I chose this topic because I am a fan of hard surface modeling and transformer animation , and I wanted to achieve cinematic transformation for the transformer in the game engine . I also chose this project because I have previous experience in toy creation and I enjoy finishing a very complex hardsurface model . Additionally , I wanted to
challenge myself to see how much I could learn about animation during the process .
The project began in May 2021 and finished in May 2022 . It was beneficial because I learned a lot about basic blueprint technology and managing resources in the game engine . The longrange learning experience also made me more considerate and patient while learning something new . The project needed really good time management , and it forced me to introspect .
This thesis could be useful to the game industry by providing entry-level instructions for creating complex models . The process provided critical thoughts on creative inspiration and what to learn if you want to be a hard surface artist . The animation and destruction of the transformer are inspired by the cinematic industry and game industry , and could provide basic logic for anyone wanting to make a destructible robot in UE4 .
