The Relationship Between Goal Orientation and Motivation in Small Group Team Performance
The objective of my thesis was to attain an enhanced understanding of how to motivate teams — and ultimately prevent them from failing due to lack of motivation — by examining individual and team goal orientation , in addition to the influence of intrinsic and extrinsic incentives on small video game development teams .
My thesis began in the summer of 2020 and ended in the spring of 2021 . I chose to do this project because I consider motivation to be a fascinating construct . It is important as a producer to effectively motivate team members so that they perform to the best of their ability . To that end , discovering what motivational strategies worked or didn ’ t work to increase performance levels was not only intriguing , but very relevant for my discipline .
I now possess a better comprehension of motivation , which is a key component to performance . With this insight , I can properly motivate my team members in the future to achieve better performance levels .
The results found in this study could be potentially valuable to video game development studios , as they could acquire a better understanding of what motivated individuals on student video game development teams to increase performance levels and boost overall prospects of success for their teams .
