About SMPN SATAP 2 TANJUNG

In July and August of 2018, the northern regions of the island of Lombok, Indonesia, were struck by several major earthquakes, which caused hundreds of deaths and massive damage to houses and public infrastructure, including more than 600 school buildings. In the months that followed, the government, various NGOs, and private stakeholders began to rebuild and renovate some schools, but more than three years later there are still many schools trying to function without adequate learning spaces or facilities.

Satap 2 Tanjung Junior High School is one such school. The school is located in the Tanjung Region of North Lombok and is attended by students from three surrounding villages, where the primary source of income is taxi driving or construction work. While the school’s adjoining primary school was rebuilt by Plan International after the earthquakes, the junior high school students were still attending classes in a temporary shelter that provided little protection from wind, rain, and hot weather. The Block School classrooms constructed by Classroom of Hope Indonesia have provided three ready-to-use classrooms, fitted with lights, fans, and power points and fully furnished with desks and chairs, whiteboards, a filing cabinet, and a storage cupboard.
