What ’ s your favorite Girl Scout Cookie ? My sweet tooth grows each year . Right now , I ’ m rocking the Lemonades at every opportunity — although I ’ m obsessed with the Fall chocolates too !
What are some of your goals and hopes for GSSNE ’ s future ? I am driven to make GSSNE the most relevant , holistic , and engaging youth programming in RI , MA , and CT . It is my job to evangelize the value of Girl Scouts to our community . To do so , I need to ensure GSSNE is providing the highest quality programming . I ’ m blown away by the work of our council and hope I can push and pull all the right levers to support everyone in the Movement .
What motivates or inspires you ? I wake up each morning ( ready for my cup of tea ) and driven to make the most of the day . I find inspiration everywhere — my incredibly patient and supportive spouse , my four zany little kids , the birds chirping outside my window , and of course , Dolly Parton .
What could you give a 30-minute presentation about with no advance preparation ? I can talk my way through many topics , but definitely 80s and 90s pop culture , Harry Potter , and foster care would be at the top of my list .
What obscure thing are you talented at ? I have a Master ’ s Degree in Anthropology with a focus on Ethnomusicology . My thesis focused on Sacred Harp singing , a form of shape note singing that was very popular as a music education model in the 18th / 19th centuries . For my research , I lived on and off again in rural Alabama , learning shape note singing in primitive Baptist churches . It ’ s a loud , yelly type of music , so I really excelled ! A group of us even performed at the Newport Folk Festival — twice !
