Making New Friends
This year has certainly come with its challenges—or as we like to look at them—opportunities. Opportunities to adapt and create a new virtual world for our Girl Scouts to experience! Over the last several months, council has been working fervently to research and develop new strategies to recruit and retain our members and we’d like to fill you in!
Back in the old days—or June as we call it in 2020—the membership team launched the first of a series of events. These “Digital Drop-Ins” have not only launched successfully, but have gathered a bit of a following. Three times per week, girls are given the opportunity to join staff over Zoom for a live and interactive experience. We begin and end every event with the Girl Scout Promise and Law and a round of “Make New Friends.” We cover a variety of topics over the series, including but not limited to self-esteem, science, music, kindness, first responders, and animals. Each event consists of a book, craft, and song associated with a particular topic. One of our moms made a point to share:
“You’d think she’d be
virtualed out, but my
daughter looks forward to
these every single Saturday
morning.” Talk about an
endorsement! As a matter of
fact, these Digital Drop-Ins
have been so successful, we
have expanded to partner
with two (so far) libraries in
the community! These
partnerships have given us
the ability to share the
Girl Scout Leadership
Experience with audience
members we otherwise
might not have had the
chance to reach!
During our session on talent, Victoria shared her love of dance!
