As we come to the end of our centennial year (1919) of Girl Scouting within the southeastern New England area, it is a great time to dream about the next century of Girl Scouting! Yes, girls have so many more options for their out-of-school time, especially sports (which girls report is their favorite activity), but here is what our girls reported in the most recent survey about their Girl Scout experience:

95% said that they like being a Girl Scout!

95% said that they get to do lots of different things in Girl Scouts!

94% said that they are excited about the things they get to do in Girl Scouts!

93% said they feel safe in Girl Scouts!

91% said that Girl Scouts offers the kinds of things they want to do!

91% said that participating in Girl Scouts is a good use of their time!

90% said they learned new things in Girl Scouts!

90% said that in Girl Scouts they feel like they belong!

85% said that because of Girl Scouts they can make a difference in the world!

Think about what THEY said…girls NEED and WANT Girl Scouts…and because of the challenges facing girls and adults today, we need to make sure that Girl Scouts is there for girls. We’ve Got This! Together, we can make sure that Girl Scouting is there for girls over the next century. And you know what? Our community needs Girl Scouts because our girls make a difference in communities every day!

So, when you join in on the two remaining centennial celebrations in 2019 (the Slater Park event on September 21; and the actual council centennial celebration date on December 2) please rededicate yourself to being the face of Girl Scouting in your communities and invite others to join us in our important movement dedicated to girls! Welcome to this new and exciting year of Girl Scouting friends, we're so happy you're here!

Warmly, Your CEO - Pam
