Community Outreach and Extended Learning Programs
Highlights
A Junior troop at Varieur Elementary School in Pawtucket worked on something that is quite prevalent in society today: the girls learned about anti-bullying and they brought a real situation to the troop and discussed strategies to problem solve the situation.
The Daisy to Junior level troops at D’Abate Elementary School in Providence worked on their badges and petals throughout the year earning their Celebrating Community, Home Scientist and Inventor Badges. Juniors earned their Inside Government, Entertainment Technology and Product Designer Badges.
A Brownie and Junior troop at Thornton Elementary School in Johnston worked on their Jeweler Badge. Girls learned about different jewelry pieces from around the world. They then used beads, wire and pliers to create beautiful accessories like earrings, necklaces and bracelets of their own while learning about the various cultures that the jewelry came from.
At a culminating pinning event at Henry Lord School in Fall River, one Brownie named Maria read “The
Brownie Story” and learned about
what helpful Brownies do at
school, home and their community.
During the ceremony, she turned
around three times and said, the
magic rhyme, “Twist me and turn
me and show me the elf, I looked in
the water and saw myself.” Maria
was then welcomed into her new
troop.
GSSNE was fortunate to serve over
900 girls like Maria through outreach
and extended learning programming
this past year due to the generosity
of our wonderful donors!
