A G.I.R.L. 2017 Convention Story:

A Grandmother's Love

This issue of S’more News is all about donating to the Girl Scout mission: Building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. And while monetary donations allow us to provide positive

girl-led experiences, your time allows us to do the same! Girl Scouting brings together people from all over, and gives them the opportunity to become friends, and even family. Here is a touching story of three friends, who have created a Girl Scout family with their granddaughters:

Gert, Pauline, and Wanda have known each other for almost 14 years. Their friendship began at the council office as they were all working for Girl Scouts of Rhode Island (the predecessor to GSSNE), and shared a love for all things Girl Scouting—fast forward a few years and the trio all have young Girl Scouting granddaughters of their own! The girls have become friends through the Grandma & Me camping weekend at Camp Promising Acres, and even though they only see each other a few times each year, they have created a special bond.

This year, the G.I.R.L. 2017 convention in Columbus, Ohio, seemed like the perfect opportunity to take the girls on the road! So on an early morning in October, 4 am to be exact, the three grandmothers got on the road with their three excited Girl Scouts: Gabrielle, Gert’s 11 year old granddaughter, Addison, Pauline’s 10 year old granddaughter, and Sienna, Wanda’s 9 year old granddaughter! What an adventure!
