Kendal is often seen as the Southern gateway to the Lake District, being only around 9 miles from Windermere and around 30 miles from Keswick. The other lakes are all within an hour or two’s travelling by car from the town, as are locations for walks and rambles, both gentle and demanding.

stylish range of clothing and thermal wear.

The ‘Auld Grey Town' of Kendal, handsomely built in limestone, is the focal hub for shopping and culture in Lakeland.

Historically, Kendal was one of the most important woollen textile

centres in the country, producing ‘Kendal Green' and other ‘Kendal

cottons' - its numerous yards were once filled with workshops

processing cloth, leather and foodstuffs. Kendal was also a centre for

shoe making, carpet and snuff manufacture, and synonymous with the

production of Kendal Mint Cake; an essential prerequisite for today's explorers and mountaineers.

Attractions for alll ages, facinating museums, modern and historic art and variety of leisure facilities. The shopping is diverse with many high street names but the town is known for speciality shops - quality independent traders offering a range of goods unrivalled anywhere in the Lake District.
