grief ripple,
life break through,
to see you sit
without contagion,
your hands at ease,
or leave entirely,
your shadow flying
from the sickbed sheets,
like a sunset suddenness
seeping the sedge,
the corncrake
croaking love tomorrow
at the island’s edge.
