LIBRARY LEARNING COMMONS At Smitha Middle School , students are encouraged to use the Learning Commons . The Learning Commons is open daily from 8:45 a . m . until 4:10 p . m . Students must always have a pass and a clear purpose for visiting the Learning Commons ( such as research , reading , checking out a book , etc .).
Student Responsibility for Books : Students may check out up to two books at a time for a loan period of three weeks . E- books are also available . When checking out books from the Learning Commons , the student agrees to assume responsibility for the books . In cases of extreme negligence , when a book must be discarded ( such as water damage to a book ), the student will be responsible for the replacement cost of the book .
Once a student has an overdue book , he / she will not be allowed to check out any additional books . The due date for each book checked out is stamped on the slip in the back of each book . Students will receive overdue notices from the Learning Commons via homeroom . Failure to resolve lost and / or overdue book fines may result in students being removed from special activities throughout the school year and holding of final report cards .

Several additional academic-based screening programs are also conducted throughout the school year on an as needed basis , primarily the Reading Inventory ( RI ), Math Inventory ( MI ), and CCSD Interim Assessment . Information will be sent home throughout the year with further details .
STUDENT RECORDS REQUEST Parents may request copies of their child ’ s academic records by contacting the grade level counselor . Please allow at least 10 school days to process the request . The JR-3 form must be signed by the enrolling adult .
