5 Bridge Refurbishments for Sydney Trains

Well done to Regina Cruz and the bid team for winning the above project as part of the Sydney Trains Super Panel. This is a great win and will provide $650k of new design work for the team. The project involves geotechnical investigation, condition assessment, load rating and concept/ detailed design for the refurbishment works.

The team recently received great feedback from Sydney Trains on SMEC’s performance on the Liberty Street and Old Canterbury Road Bridge Replacements. This win is great repeat business and is a result of the hard work that Regina, Zoe and David put into that project.

For more information regarding this project please contact Regina Cruz, the bid manager for the tender.

New Landfill Remediation Project in Newcastle

SMEC has been awarded the Detailed Design and Documentation for the remediation of a former landfill at Gwandalan, NSW Central Coast. The site had previously received uncontrolled waste that Council are now voluntarily remediating.

SMEC's brief includes field investigations to assess gas, leachate, flora and fauna, traffic assessments, preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement, master-planning, and preparation of the detailed design documentation and technical specifications for remediation of the site.

The remediation exercise is expected to include earthworks, capping and revegetation, drainage, gas venting, leachate collection and treatment, and stockpiling of cap material for the works. SMEC was selected over eight other consultants in an open tender because SMEC was able to offer Council value combined with insightful remediation solutions.

Future Facilities Masterplan Study – ACTION, ACT

ACTION is the ACT Government operated public transport provider for Canberra. Over the past five years, the ACT Government has invested heavily in the improvement of the public transport network in Canberra, which has resulted in a steady growth in the volume of buses in the ACTION fleet. The two primary depots are reaching their effective capacity and additional capacity is required, particularly in the growth areas on the northern side of the city.

This project has three primary objectives:

• Examine ACTION’s current business model

Consider and expand on previous studies, which have been undertaken, relating to the future needs for bus depots within the context of existing and proposed public transport networks

Deliver a comprehensive masterplan including operational and financial feasibility of ACTION’s facilities
