How was the conference?
The conference and exhibition went well. The paper I presented was well received and generated interest both on the exhibition stand and in the conference hall. It generated a number of enquiries on the stand for further information and demonstration of the cathodic protection remote monitoring system and other services SMEC can provide.
SMEC were the only consultant to present at the conference and also have a stand.
Was it beneficial?
It was a great chance to meet my peers in the corrosion industry in Australiasia.
This was a definite plus point for me as having all the relevant corrosion professionals in one place is a rare occurrence and enabled me to promote myself and SMEC to this market.
.Our presence throughout the conference enabled us to maximise the number of contacts we made and leverage the benefit of presenting papers and having a stand as a focal point for further discussions.
What did you present?
The paper I presented promoted the economic, environmental and safety benefits of installing and operating remote monitoring systems for impressed current cathodic protections systems used to protect buried pipelines from external corrosion.
Luke Menefy (Brisbane office) also presented a paper in the concrete repair and rehabilitation stream outlining the draft condition assessment manual SMEC are developing for Ports Australia. The paper stimulated good debate with the conference floor and showed SMEC to be at the forefront of condition assessment of marine structures.
KEVIN WOODLAND from Sydney's Materials team has been marketing in Queensland and shares with us his recent experience of presenting at an international conference.
