SMEC successfully overcame competition from 19 other consultants to be named as the preferred consultant for all of the available packages for the Geraldton Port Authority (GPA) Asset Condition Assessment in Western Australia. SMEC will lead an integrated project team with Wave International to determine the condition, economic life, remedial measures and cost profiling for all of the marine structures and bulk handling assets within the port.

The existing port infrastructure can achieve a throughput of over 10 million tonnes per annum; however the demand for exporting iron ore is outstripping the existing capacity which is forecast to exceed 30 million tonnes per annum.

The SMEC-Wave team formed an integrated working relationship from the outset of the tender, which continued through the tender clarifications and presentation interview, and will form a strong foundation for the project delivery and our future strategic partnership.

The key factors that impressed the tender assessment panel were:

Considerable combined experience and industry

Recognised expertise within the SMEC-Wave team

SMEC’s recent appointment to deliver the Ports Australia Wharf Structures Condition

Assessment Manual and

Wave’s exemplary health and safety record.
