Due to its open economy, Panama has few market access problems. One of the more common market entry options is to appoint an agent or distributor. The U.S. Commercial Service offers U.S. companies market entry assistance through a variety of services, any of which can be tailored to suit your needs. We also will work to defend your business interests in Panama if the need arises.

Given the ease of air travel between the U.S. and Panama, our Gold Key Service (GKS) is our most popular offering. This service connects you with qualified potential representatives, distributors, partners, or customers. The U.S. Embassy will conduct background checks, set up the meetings, and provide translation and driving services as part of the service.

Automotive Opportunities

Slovenia is home to a French Renault factory and has an extensive network of automotive parts manufacturers producing for several global carmakers. Slovenia’s automotive component manufacturers have a strong reputation for innovation, with many patents and OEM agreements with premium brands, including recent agreements to supply key components for electric cars. In addition, new startups have emerged offering autonomous drive solutions, some of which have already attracted significant capital from European and American investment funds.

Slovenia has also been a leader in developing infrastructure for electric vehicles. Since 2017, Slovenia’s highways have featured electricity chargers every 50 kilometers. In 2018, Slovenia signed a trilateral agreement with Austria and Hungary to build a testing center for self-driving cars, which opened in 2019. In November 2019, the Jožef Stefan Institute signed an e-mobility cooperation agreement with a Norwegian institute to collaborate on new technologies.

Slovenia’s Jožef Stefan Institute has been a leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics research. The November 2019 UNESCO general conference in Paris selected Slovenia to host the International Research Center on Artificial Intelligence, which is expected to open in 2020. Solvesall, one of the Institute’s spinoffs, has implemented more than 30 AI-based projects with European and American companies over the past two years, including research on self-driving cars.

Slovenia has also been a leader in the production of robots in recent decades. In 2018, a Japanese multinational doubled its robot production in the country with a new plant in Kočevje, while several Slovenian companies have modernized their production lines through new robot solutions.
