companies in Croatia have introduced a new or improved product/service, and 21,7% have introduced
new processes according to the last report by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (2012). The largest share
of spending on research and development comes from the public sector, while the contribution of
business sector represents 39,8% (the EU average is 54,1%). The expenditure for research and
development stood at 0,75% of GDP in 2011 (the EU average is 2% of GDP) with the share of business
sector investment at 0,34% of GDP (EU average is 1,27% of GDP).
