Smalltalk Autumn 2015 | Page 3

Hello, It‟s been a wonderful summer - the weather‟s been its usual mix but in general we‟ve been treated to some lovely sunny days. Now the days are definitely shortening, there are crisp autumn walks and all the colours of the changing trees to look forward to. Many of us - including myself - are witnessing other changes as the „new term‟: perhaps a little one is starting daycare; you‟re starting a new trimester of your pregnancy; your baby is due to arrive, or you have another new project in mind. For me, I am fast approaching the end of my maternity leave and facing the return to the „day job‟ with mixed feelings. As well as giving me my beautiful daughter as a result, my pregnancy and being a mum has also given me some fantastic friends, contacts and new opportunities - including my NCT friends and the exciting role as editor of this newsletter. It will be a difficult “return to school” for me, but I‟m sure it will open doors, too. In this edition, we look at helpful resources available to parents of children also returning to school by meeting the lovely Sharon Dey of Panda Education. We will also hear from the Mancave; learn about birth choices and members‟ birth stories, and studying with NCT. Another person facing an exciting chapter is NCT‟s new CEO, Nick Wilkie, and we‟d like to welcome him. Whatever your own „new term‟ may hold, I wish you every success with it!
