In the village of Brooklyn, there is a small company called Moonlight Designs
Studio. On the surface, it looks like your typical design company--busy cranking
out marketing materials for local small businesses. As it turns out, however, the
creative mind behind it all is…a painter?
Brit grew up dreaming of the arts, honing her skills by drawing the latest Disney
characters repeatedly in hopes of one day becoming an animator. By high
school, she was drawing her own comic strip detailing the shenanigans of her
classmates. Eventually she moved past the idea of animation and decided she
wanted to become a painter and teach art. From then on, her schedule filled
with art classes.
Although Brit loved to paint, she also fell in love with using Paint on the family
computer, as she could now draw and color to her heart’s content, finding the
perfect color schemes for her designs before finally putting brush to canvas.
Paint, then Photoshop, became the blank canvas on which she would see a
figure start to appear, waiting to be finished.
After realizing that all of her paintings were starting out in Photoshop, Brit decided
that computer design was the wave of the future and switched her degree in
Fine Arts to a Computer Imaging emphasis (with a minor in painting, which she
still loved).
What tied together the worlds of painting and design for Brit was when she
designed her first bus ad, in what was also her first time designing for print. She
was so excited when she passed a bus displaying her artwork for the first time,
realizing that the entire city had now become her gallery. She was no longer
simply a painter, but a digital painter with the world as her canvas.
As a multimedia designer, Brit looks at each new file or web page as a canvas
waiting to be painted, and loves the way that a design comes to life, stroke by
stroke and layer by layer, growing to match the image in her head.
