Besides the experts, the village needed the support of the
community. In addition to the usual public hearings, a street naming
contest was held for the first street in the BBC. The Economic
Development Committee received a flood of entries from which
to choose a winner. “Prosperity Place” was selected because it
honored the spirit and direction of the Village of Brooklyn.
Because the Village of Brooklyn is located midway between
Madison and Janesville and only 113 miles to Chicago and 82
miles to Milwaukee, it is an ideal site for businesses looking to serve
the south central Wisconsin and northern Illinois region. The 2011
community survey revealed that our residents, whose average age
is 33, are a mixture of young professionals, as well as skilled and
unskilled tradespeople. The close proximity to excellent work force
development professional and technical training facilities, such as
Blackhawk Technical College, Madison College and the University of
Wisconsin south central campuses, means the Village can meet the
educational and training needs of any business.
