For three months, there will be no thoughts of bell schedules, tests, or homework. It’s crazy to think that we’ve been through three quarters and are nearly halfway through the fourth. I decided to ask around and see what some highlights of some people’s year have been, and what things people are most looking forward to this summer. Rilee Howard said that the highlight of her year was sports, especially volleyball. She is looking forward to having no homework and going to the pool. Tessa Shafer expressed that her seventh grade year has definitely been her best and it seemed like it flew by! Emily Snow’s favorite part of her eighth grade year was quiz bowl. Both Emily Snow and Shelby Behmerwohld are looking forward to spending more time with their family this summer. Both Gracie Richie and Jimmy Fletcher’s favorite part of the year was the research projects they got to conduct. Ava Paitz is looking forward to softball, and Knox Feldman is looking forward to t-ball. Malynn Boyles, Topanga Boyles, and Koy Zulkowski all loved music class and their concerts. This year, there were some changes with both the schedule and the classes offered. We saw the addition of Access Period- this is a 25-minute period that was added to the end of the day. This year Game Design, and Robotics were offered. In Game Design, they started off playing video games that other people had designed. They then moved on to designing their own video games on special paper. The games were programmed into iPads. In Robotics, they have learned how to not only program robots, but how to build them from scratch. With the first robots they built, they used a kit and followed a set of directions. Now they are designing building them from their own imagination. Another change we saw was quarterly awards assemblies. In years past, the assembly has been held at the end of year and covered all four quarters. Now, the assemblies are held after each quarter ends and focus just on that quarter. When asked the reason for the assemblies being held in this fashion, Mrs. Kluender replied, “Immediate feedback. Students are working so hard to progress and do well that they need to be recognized in a timely manner.” Special Inserts: Yearbook Order Form Summer School Registration Athletic Banquet Flyer At the end of this year, we will also say goodbye to some of our wonderful faculty: Mr. Kjar, Mrs. Kluender, Mr. Sonnenfeld, Mr. Kirby, and Mrs. Eckhout. We will miss them, but we appreciate the time they’ve spent with us and the work they’ve done in our school. 1
