Superintendent’s Report JUNE 2016 Litchfield Public Schools Accreditation Approval by State (page 1-2) Letter and Certificate is included in this report Personnel Please know that Rebecca Vega has been offered the 5th and 6 th grade position at Litchfield Public Schools and she has accepted. Rebecca graduated from Suny Oneonta Teacher’s College in Oneonta, New York, in 2006. She taught for seven years in Rome City Schools, five of those years as a fifth grade instructor, in New York before returning to Nebraska in August of 2014. During the past two years she has worked as a substitute for Pleasanton, Minden, Ravenna, Shelton, and Litchfield. Rebecca’s references are outstanding and some comments include comments from Litchfield staff members: One of Rebecca’s supervisors from Rome City Schools commented about Rebecca, “Mrs. Vega has exceeded expectations as a teacher for our district. She has a high work ethic, outstanding professionalism, and is dedicated to her students. She works hard to seek effective teaching approaches for all students. I have no doubt that Mrs. Vega will continue to display high standards and integrity in her classroom where ever she teaches.” John Osgood from C. L. Jones Middle School commented about Rebecca, “Rebecca did a great job for us last year as a long term sub. She taught for nine weeks in 6th-grade math, and then for six weeks in 4th grade self-contained. She did a great job. Rebecca connected with the students and parents. She has excellent control of the classroom, outstanding inquiry skills, is innovative, and has a teacher "tool chest" that is second to none. During the time Rebecca was with us I found her to be dedicated to the success of the students. She was always well prepared and constantly seeking ways to reach all students. Student success was her top priority. She takes education very seriously and she does not give up on any child. Great quality to have when working with young people. High expectations along with the drive to reach every child is a great combination. She is a master teacher.” Mrs. Jeralynn Moser commented, “Mrs. Vega really gets to know students and staff. She has gone above and beyond in making important connections with students and teachers. She is always kind and smiling in the hallways. She has helped our school in many roles and her positive attitude and outlook on life has been infectious and she would be an asset to any school.” Rebecca has been a master teacher for our district for the past two years as an outstanding substitute teacher. She currently served as our long term sub in the 5th and 6th grade position this spring. Rebecca has served in long term substitute positions for CL. Jones middle school in Minden on two different occasions. She was scheduled to interview for a 5th grade position with Minden Public Schools this week and has turned down the interview to accept our position. Rebecca’s background, experience, knowledge, attitude and skill set helped her to be the top choice of the hiring team. This contract will be issued as an interim 1 year teaching position that may be opened again in next spring. The board of education will be asked to formally approve her contract on Monday night Motion: I recommend that Rebecca Vega be offered the 5 th and 6th grade position as an interim teacher for the 2016-17 school year. Bus Driver Hired for 2016-17 Routes The district will be hiring Gary Maciejowski as regular bus driver for the 2015-16 school year. He is a certified driver who has been driving for Loup City Public Schools for the past several years. He is moving to a farm south of Litchfield this summer. Gary has performed many services for Loup City and has been their transportation director at one time during his tenure with Loup City. Adding a bus route will allow us to reduce 1 Van route in the morning and 2 routes in the afternoon. Land Survey and Title Complete (3-5) The Survey and Title are now complete for the gift of Land that will be used as a parking lot and will be registered at the courthouse this month. Included is the survey and legal description. Summer Technology Planning (6-7) Included is a summary of the tech meeting held with the Mosers last week. Over 20 of our old desktop computers were given to families and students. There will be a special curriculum planning session prior to school to assist our instructors in their planning efforts with the new lap tops and blended learning.
