LITCHFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULAR MEETING May 16, 2016 President Mitch Feldman called the regular meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. Members Present: Bill Howard, Marie Sweley, Todd Wardyn, Mitch Feldman, Steve Heapy, and Jim Holm came late. Visitors: Chad and Megan Slocum, David C. Siegel, Carroll Sliva, Nikia Hunt, Wade Finley, Jeremy and Sherry Rosentreader, and Sherrie and Ed Klein. President Mitch Feldman announced and informed the public that a current copy of the Open Meetings Law is posted on the wall of the meeting room, and also indicated the instructions for those who wish to speak during the public forum. The minutes of the last meeting were read. Bill Howard made a motion to approve as read the minutes from the last meeting. Second by Steve Heapy. Motion carried 5-0. The treasurer reported a balance of $1,203,852.64 in the district treasury. Payroll and claims in the amount of $184,481.35 were presented for payment. Steve Heapy made a motion to pay the claims. Second by Todd Wardyn. Motion carried 6-0. Mr. Kjar reported completion of secondary NeSA Reading and Science assessments, field trip to the Big Apple, Graduation Ceremony on the 7th of May, Prom on April 26th, Good Luck to the state track qualifiers, Awesome job hosting Custer County Invite and District D-7 Track Meets, and Coop varsity athletic banquet will be Tuesday May 17; Mrs. Kluender reported on NeSA , and MAPS is complete elementary field trip to the Big Apple on the 10th of May, Elementary Track Meet in Ansley, Elementary Activity Day is Tuesday the 17th, April 27th is in-service late start. In the Superintendent’s Report Dr. Maline discussed new special education Instructor, Buildings and grounds, gym floor repair, bleachers, cement bid for the playground, north parking lot, community sign, repair activities bus 09, new teacher evaluation, Publication to patrons, Wade Finley, Personnel, and consider staff resignation. Todd Wardyn made a motion to recommend that the district hire Sherrie Klein for our special education position for the 2016-17 school year. Second by Bill Howard. Motion carried 6-0. Todd made a motion to enter into executive session to discuss buildings and grounds and gym floor repair. Second by Jim Holm. Motion carried 6-0. President Mitch Feldman reinstated intent for executive session was to discuss buildings and grounds and gym floor repair. Board entered executive session at 8:36 p.m. Todd Wardyn made a motion to exit executive session. Second by Bill Howard. Motion carried 6-0. Board exited executive session at 8:50 p.m. Jim Holm made a motion to install wall to wall gym floor. Second by Todd Wardyn. Motion carried 5-0. Heapy Nay. Jim Holm made a motion to install bleachers with 10 ¼ rise as proposed per estimate. Second by Bill Howard. Motion carried 5-0. Heapy Nay. Cement Bid for the playground will be tabled until the next meeting. Todd Wardyn made a motion for Johnson Landscaping do a retaining wall install minus the rock and dirt work in front of the building. Second by Marie Sweley. Motion carried 6-0.
