NATIONAL MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY

National Make a Difference Day is on October 22; what will you do to make a difference? You can do something simple that could cause a huge change. You could volunteer at a shelter or a soup kitchen. If you can’ t make it to one of those you could try helping someone in need. Helping out your neighbors is something super easy to do, you could help them mow or clean and they’ d appreciate you for it. Going to an elderly home and spending time with someone could change their mood. You could offer to take care of someone’ s dogs. Babysitting is easy and fun to do, lots of parents want someone they can trust with their kids. As you can see, you can make a difference by doing something that is super simple.
Columbus Day- Monday, October 10 th

Columbus Day is a U. S. holiday that commemorates the landing of Christopher Columbus in the New World on October 12, 1942. The Italian born explorer had two months earlier, backed by the Spanish monarchs he intended to chart the sea route to China, India, and the fabled gold, Spice Islands of Asia. Instead in the Bahamas becoming the first European to explore America since the Vikings set up colonies in Greenland and Newfoundland during the 10th century. On Columbus Day some Americans celebrate the anniversary of the discovery with church services and other activities.
Towns and small cities celebrate by parades, and other large events. Many celebrations are in Italian-American communities. In Hawaii, Columbus Day is celebrated as Discovery Day, but it ' s not a state holiday.
It originated from Italian-American heritage was first held in San Francisco in 1869. Some government offices are closed because of Columbus Day, schools are not required to be closed on Columbus Day, and Post Offices are not required to be closed either.
