October testing
Juniors will be taking the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) on Tuesday, October 8, 2019. They will also re-
ceive their results later that same day. ASVAB is the military placement test but also measures student knowledge and ability in
several areas. This has a career exploration section which gives students an opportunity to learn more about themselves and the
world of work, to identify and explore potential goals, and develop a strategy to help get to those goals.
Sophomores will be taking the PreACT on October 22nd This test is very similar to the ACT test but shorter in length. It tests on
all four ACT test subjects: English, math, reading, and science. The results predict future success on the ACT test, provide cur-
rent achievement as well as projected ACT scores (1-36) on the ACT test they take as juniors. Students may begin sharing their
information with colleges and scholarship agencies. The interest inventory provides students with a personalized view of colleges
and career alignments. Sophomores may study for the PreACT as they would for the ACT. Sophomores, you have an OnToCol-
lege account where you can prepare for the PreACT test. Please see Mrs. Poland for more information.
College Tours
September 18th was a busy day for our high school students visiting with college and career representatives. Freshman and Soph-
omores attended the Career Exploration Day sponsored by the Kearney Chamber of Commerce and the Nebraska National Guard.
They had the opportunity to visit with many departments from UNK and Central Community College, area businesses, and mili-
tary representatives as well as participate in hands-on-learning experiences.
The Juniors and Seniors attended the EducationQuest sponsored College Fair in Broken Bow. They had the opportunity to meet
with about 35 college, career, business, and military representatives from across the state. We encourage all seniors and juniors to
tour colleges of their interest. This provides additional information to parents and students as students begin to decide where they
wish to attend college. Remember, 2-year and 4-year colleges are important to visit.
