October 17, 2019 grades 3-6 participated in the BeStrong.Global Live tour simulcast from Houston, Texas. The simulcast was
about being strong when faced with obstacles in life including bullying. Students heard stories from Kechi Okwuchi, Izzy Kalman,
Kealia Ohai, and Theresa DaMayo. All of which have been bullied in their lives and have overcome the negativity. Kinzlie
McAuliff said she is inspired by Kechi as she now knows that if something bad happens to her, she can overcome that and still
make something of her life. Other students took away that one person can make a difference, follow the Golden Rule when being
picked on or bullied, believe in yourself, and love yourself. Download the BeStrong app to find lots of resources for parents and

Lunch and Learn
Jeff Bexten, Diesel Technology Instructor at Central Community College in Hastings will be here on Wednesday, November 13,
2019, to discuss his program with students interested in diesel technology. He will meet with students over their lunch time to dis-
cuss the skill sets students need to be successful at CCC, what the CCC graduate needs to take to the workplace, what graduates can
expect from the workplace, and answer any questions about the program with the time remaining. Please contact Mrs. Poland if
you or someone at your workplace would like to present at a Lunch and Learn.
Tours/Activities
Central Community College-Hastings campus hosted their Annual Diesel Technology Career Fair day on October 3, 2019. They
got to see what a dorm room looked like, visited the Student Union where meals are served, met with area employers in the diesel
technology and heavy equipment field. Participants were Tyler Schukei, Gavin Cole, and Nathan Wardyn.
Connect the Dots: On Tuesday, November 19, 2019, the Freshman class will be travelling to Kearney to participate in the Con-
nect the Dots Career exploration workshop put on by UNL’s Extension service. Students will participate in a career simulation
activity, meet with employers in career fields, listen to Postsecondary speakers, and work on resume building skills.
ACT Test Dates
Registered for December 14th ACT test? If not, deadline is November 8th. Go to www.act.org to register. Remember to study
with our OnToCollege ACT Test preparation. Some students may qualify for an ACT fee waiver. Please have your student con-
tact Mrs. Poland to inquire. Seniors, remember to use the John Baylor OnToCollege website to review for your ACT test. Juniors,
see Mrs. Poland to get a jump on studying for your ACT tests.
Congratulations to Kaleb Rosentreader on his acceptance into UNL, Kansas State University, and Central Community Col-
lege. Congratulations to Parker LeFever on his acceptance to Central Community College.
Scholarships
There is a scholarship opportunity for students taking dual-enrollment college courses. Students participating in dual-enrollment
college courses or early admit programs, are encouraged to apply or the Access College Early (ACE) Scholarship if they show fi-
nancial need. This state and federally-funded scholarship will pay tuition and mandatory fees at participating Nebraska colleges.
Applications will be reviewed by Nebraska’s Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education (CCPE). If you have ques-

Prepare for the FAFSA with free programs and resources
If you’re a senior, it’s time to start preparing for the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). You’ll complete the form
after October 1 and typically, before April 1 depending on your college’s priority deadline. Colleges will use your FAFSA results to
determine how much they will award you in federal, state and college-based financial aid.
