Jacob Swearingen, Christopher Paitz, John Zimmer, and Dallas Rohde attended the Diesel Career fair in Hastings on October 5th. There were over 20 businesses and college representatives available for these students to ask questions. We received a tour of campus as well as the diesel building. Meghan Krazter and Tyren Howard attended the UNK Health Fair on October 11th. They had the opportunity to tour the UNK Wellness area as well as hear from UNK alumni who are currently working in their health professions. We were given information about scholarships as well as Kearney Health Opportunities Program (KHOP). Four juniors completed ASVAB testing on October 12th. We celebrated Red Ribbon Week, October 23 to October 26th. Put a lid on drugs was Monday’s Theme; Tuesday was Spirit Day; Wednesday was “Boot out Drugs” and Thursday was Red Day to celebrate being drug free. Junior/Seniors Next ACT National testing date is December 9th. Deadline for registration is November 3rd. All juniors have access to ACT Online Prep. Juniors have access via e-mail to complete their registration to begin utilizing this FREE test preparation site. Scholarships For local and state scholarships, visit Scholarship Quest at EducationQuest.org. Susan Thompson Buffett Scholarship opens on November 1st and closes at 5 p.m on February 1, 2018. Educaationquest.org is the site for reference for FAFSA, college information, and college funding estimator. It is never too early to begin searching for scholarships as well as making your list of strengths, volunteer activities, and other notable characteristics about yourself. Prepare for the FAFSA with free programs and resources Seniors and senior parents/guardians, FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) opened on October 1st. You will typically complete it soon but before April 1st depending on your college’s priority deadline. Colleges will use your FAFSA results to determine how much they will award you in federal, state and college-based financial aid.
