Beyond Differences--Positive Prevention Initiative
The 5th and 6th grade classes have just completed an 8 lesson unit on Social isolation at school entited No One Eats Alone. Our
lessons included No One learns alone, Breaths alone, Communicates alone, Acts alone, Shows Appreciation alone, Grows alone,
Welcomes a newcomer alone, and Apologizes and Forgives alone. Students practiced giving and receiving compliments as well as
giving and receiving apologies. We learned the difference between a response and a reaction as well as sorry and forgive. We also
discussed personal space and how it can differ depending upon the situation. INCLUSION is COOL!!
Careers vs Jobs
Several elementary classes have been discussing jobs versus careers. We have watched a few videos about jobs. First, Second, and
Fifth grades have drawn pictures or created posters of what they would like to do in the future. We would appreciate any volunteers
that would like to visit our classrooms to discuss their jobs/careers and they paths they took to get where they are today. Please
contact Mrs. Poland at school if you would like to share your story.
ACT Test Dates
May 3rd is the registration deadline for the June 8, 2019 National ACT Test date. Go to www.act.org to register. Remember to
study with our OnToCollege ACT Test preparation. Some students may qualify for an ACT fee waiver. Please have your student
contact Mrs. Poland to inquire. Seniors, remember to use the John Baylor OnToCollege website to review for your ACT test.
Juniors, you will continue to have OnToCollege to utilize for the June, July, September, October, and December ACT test dates.
