Spartan Winter Sports teams in action in MNAC Tourney Boys Basketball The boys basketball team entered MNAC play seaded third on East side of the bracket. With an easy win over Stapleton, the Spartans faced the 2 nd seed South Loup Bobcats in the 2 nd round. The Spartans played well and lead the entire game until late in the 4 th quarter. The Bobcats put on a run late in the quarter that the Spar- tans couldn’t recover from. The Spartans lost a close hard fought battle 52-58. The Spartans found themselves out of the tournament with the loss to South Loup. The Spartans did get another game in with Hyannis from the West side of the bracket. The boys were victorious with a 59-42 win. After conference play the Spartans record was 14-3. Since conference play the Spartans have gone on to win 4 more games including a rematch win over South Loup with a score of 60-50, and a victory over rival Arcadia-Loup City 64-36. As of February 8 th , the boys team record is 18-3 and sitting 11 th in power points. We want to wish the Spartans good luck with the rest of season as sub-district play begins February 18. Above: Christopher Paitz directing the offense Girls Basketball The girls basketball team entered the MNAC Conference Basketball Tournament seaded 2 nd and getting a bye for the first round. In the second round they faced 3 rd sead Anselmo Merna. Anselmo Merno proved too much to handle as the Spartans fell 24-37. The loss ended their tournament run but they did get another game to play against Sandhills Thedford from the West side of the bracket. The girls came up short again as they lost 15-29. The team played sub-districts on February 13th facing Central Valley for the 3rd time. The girls fought hard, played tough, and kept a close game until the end. The girls came up short ending their season with a 24-26 loss. The girls finished the season with an overall record of 12-11. Congratulations Spartan Girls on a fine season.
