MNAC ART Litchfield Earns 2 nd at Art Conference Competition Honors Include: “Reserve, Best-of-show”: Dallas Rohde 1 st : Kayden Lucas, Watercolor Litchfield high school students placed 2 nd in the con- ference art competition on January 26 th in North Platte. In a conference of 16 individual schools Litch- field art teacher Allison Varah says “2 nd was awe- some and she is very impressed with her students.” 2 nd : Rilee Howard, Mixed Media Only Mullen high school accumulated more points than Litchfield. Mullen earned 57 total points, Litch- field came in with 42 points, and Callaway was 3 rd with 23 points. 3 rd : Kiera Fulmer, Textiles Art teacher Allison Varah states “Art is subjective and you’re never sure how things will go in a show like this. There are always pieces you think should have done better and some that you are delighted did so well. I was very excited to see so many stu- dents earn ribbons and I just hope students whose pieces didn’t place know their artwork is still awe- some!” 3 rd : Emily Snow, Computer Generated Dallas Rohde enjoyed high honors as his piece won “Reserve Best-of-Show” for the entire MNAC com- petition. He welded a Praying Mantis out of scrap metal. It has wings made from a hand saw blade, legs made from an old rusted wire cutters, the body has pieces from a drivetrain of a lawnmower. With nuts for eyes and rebar for arms it is fun to look at and certainly unique, not a surprise the judges gave it “Reserve best-of-show” This was the first year that the conference awarded a “first and second team all-conference honors”. It was based off of top individual points earned in the competition. Braydon Goodner from Litchfield was 1 st conference with his many placings including: 2 nd in Wheel Thrown, 3 rd in Acrylic/Oil Painting, 5 th in Hand Build Ceramics and an honorable mention on his stain glass mosaic that was in the miscellaneous category.
