WHY MY VOTE MATTERS
BY JOHN ZIMMER, LITCHFIELD SENIOR
Without the first presidential election, America would not be the country it is today. Without the
voting process, we wouldn’t have had George Washington as our president and who knows where our
country would be without him. Back then it was only white rich men that could vote, but today anyone who
is born in the U.S. and is a legal citizen is allowed to vote. It doesn't matter who you are, rich or poor your
vote matters. just as much as the next person. That’s why you should vote and help support the issues
that matter most to you.
As an American citizen you should always take part in voting. Voting is what helped shape Ameri-
ca into the country it is today. Throughout time, different groups have fought hard for the right and privi-
lege we all take for granted today. It doesn’t matter how rich or poor you are, all votes are counted equal.
Man or women, black or white, celebrity, billionaire or impoverished they are all weighted equally. NFL,
NBA players, and actors you watch everyday, their votes are no greater than yours. All votes count and
you need to take part and vote for what you think is right.
To me voting is your responsibility. Voting is one way for your voice and ideas to get out there. If
you didn’t vote you can not be upset with what the outcome was. If you are looking for change or just truly
believe in something, voting is a perfect way for you to help make change. I know when I turn 18 that I’m
going to vote. There are too many problems in today's world and I need a president who’s going to fix
those problems. I can’t just sit here and watch, I have to vote.
There have been thousands of men and women who died for this country, and who have fought
so you can have the rights you have today. To me it’s almost disrespectful to not vote. You have such a
great opportunity to help your country and there are so many people wasting it. Voting also shows re-
spect for your country. It shows that you care about what happens in America.
The government affects almost every aspect of our lives and everyone has a right to have their
voice heard. Voting is one of the most precious American rights and people need to take advantage of it.
Every vote matters in our elections and everyone has a voice to be heard. You need to take part in voting
to support your ideas and beliefs to help your country become better. When the next presidential election
comes up make sure to get out their and get your voice heard. Voting is just one thing you can do to
4
make your country even greater.
