November 8 th 2017 was the date for the annual Veteran’s Day
Program at Litchfield Public School. The event was marked with
patriotism and gratefulness towards all military personnel, both former
and current.
The program started with the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, which
was led by Litchfield’s preschoolers. I think we can all say that they
did a fine good job and we congratulate them for being brave enough
to stand up and lead us all.
Next up was a performance by the Junior High School band who
played “Star Spangled Banner,” with Mr. Hiebner at the lead,
conducting. The band did a wonderful job and we hope that they
would play again at other events.
Up next was a series of choirs, comprising of students of all levels
from 1 st grade to high school senior class. 1 st through 3 rd grades’ choir
took the stage first with their rendition of the “Grand Old Flag”
followed shortly by 4 th through 6 th grades’ choir singing “God Bless
America” with Junior High and High School choirs joining as one
with their version of “A Grateful Nation.” It is without a doubt that
everyone did extremely well and we are all proud to see them all
showcasing their musical abilities.
Followed shortly after the music performances, any military veterans
within the audience were encouraged to stand up and give a brief
description of what branch did they serve with, where they served at,
and so forth. We were honored to hear their stories of their service.
Before we came to the end of the program, a video was showcased
detailing the history of the song “Star Spangled Banner” and why John
Stafford Smith (the composer) wrote it. Needless to say, the entire
audience was moved by the history and the details of the battle which
inspired the song.
Last but not least, once all the performances were over, Litchfield’s 5 th
and 6 th grade students had the honor of serving attending veterans and
their family members’ lunch, resulting in a very respectable, but lively,
atmosphere for all who attended.
That wrapped up Litchfield’s 2017 annual Veteran’s Day program.
We thank all veterans for their service to the country and their
dedication to their duty and their protection of all of us. Thanks for
reading and we will see you all on next year’s Veterans Day.
