KINDERGARTEN SPREADS KINDNESS
By: Mrs. Kratzer
As part of our theme of kindness, the
Kindergarten class has been spreading
kindness to several citizens throughout
Litchfield. cards and sugar cookies with Valentine
sprinkles. The students enjoyed seeing
their new friends and commented how
happy everyone was to see them.
Our first experience was in December
when students made Christmas pictures,
delivered candy canes, and sang Christ-
mas carols. The students decided which
carol they sang at each house. They took
turns handing out candy canes and pic-
tures at each visit. We even took pictures
with our new friends! I'm not sure who
enjoyed it more, the students or the guests
we visited! When we got back to school,
we printed the pictures and put them in a
Christmas card for each new friend. The other day our class received some
kindness in the mail from our friend Bon-
nie. She sent us a thank you card for all of
our visits, writing how she liked seeing all
the happy little faces! She even gave us a
donation for some special
treats when we go on a
class field trip. Our
class is learning that
when you spread kind-
ness, everyone is happy and
the kindness keeps on spread-
ing. We have one more kindness
visit planned, but we are keeping
it a surprise! ■
We had so much fun at Christmas that
we decided to venture out again on Valen-
tine's Day. This time we made Valentine
ELEMENTARY READING PARTY
By: Marissa Zentz
On March 7, K-6 had a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and
Math) party honoring Dr. Seuss books. For these activities the elementary
teachers completed different activities consisting of Cat in the Hat Cup
stacking, Oobleck Slime, The Lorax maker diffusion, One Fish, Two Fish,
rainbow goldfish color sorting and graphing, and “dirt” pudding cups.
The kids were split into three groups, each group with 15 to 17 kids.
Jozzie Slocum said, “It was really fun, but my favorite thing was the
slime!” Mrs. Kratzer said, “I think it went over pretty good and I
think the kids enjoyed it!” The classroom teachers want to celebrate
reading success and 1st and 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Sauer, said “Our
school has been encouraging students to read for fun at school and
at home in various ways. This celebration was designed to
reinforce to students that reading can be and is fun!” Con-
gratulations elementary readers on a successful year. ■
