Valentine’ s Day By: Amanda McClain
Every year on February 14, flowers, candy, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones. Valentine’ s Day is the second most popular day of the year for sending cards, right behind Christmas. Valentine ' s Day was celebrated differently back in the 5th century. One way is that, in the Middle Ages, they drew the name of their valentine from a bowl. They then had to wear it on their sleeve for a week. Some people don’ t celebrate Valentine’ s Day with a significant other. Studies say that about 15 % of women send themselves flowers on Valentine’ s Day, and at least 9 million people buy their pets a gift. Back in the Middle Ages if you were single, you would marry the first single person of the opposite gender that you met on Valentine’ s day.
