Litchfield’ s already amazing lunch program became even greater when, on January 19th, they kicked off the inclusion of fresh beef from the Farm to School program. Lunch was roast beef, roasted potatoes and carrots, dinner roll, and salad bar. Student Tyren Howard said,“ The food was amazing, I loved the meat and potatoes.”

The beef was generously donated by Gary and Diane Feldman and family. Twin Loups Quality Meats in Saint Paul, NE processed the meat. Sherman Valley Farm Bureau donated $ 300 for processing. The side vegetables came from Trotter’ s Greenhouse and Manager Gary Lawrence and Jackie Finney came for lunch. We would like to thank them for their hard work and the contributions that they make to the lunch program. In addition to local contributors, Mitch Rippe from the Nebraska Beef Council came to discuss the health of beef and what it does for Nebraska. Mackenzie Johnston from the Nebraska Cattlemen ' s Association, came to lunch as well. She explained how grateful we should be for the benefits of beef. In addition, students got to hear from visitors from the Sherman County Farm Bureau and the Nebraska Department of Education.
Litchfield Schools would like to thank the Feldman family, the greenhouse staff, Tom Smedra, Mitch Rippe, Mackenzie Johnston, Mr. Brian Johnson( FFA sponsor), Twin Loups Quality Meats, and our amazing kitchen staff for the delicious and educational experience.
