We finished up the first quarter . Report cards were sent home . We had a positive external visit from the ESU that conducted observation for our blended learning pilot program . Our staff was commended for their buy in for the blended learning program and the success and growth that they show in the classroom instruction . Complement to Mrs . Ellis and her music program . She took her Middle School band to participate in the Minden band fest . She has followed up with a solid performance and the organization of the Veteran Program on Wednesday , November 9 , 2016 . Her program is definitely showing progress . We will have Winter sports starting the week of the 14 th and our One Act has started its season with its ’ first performance last week in Ord . We will be having a public performance later this month .

Seniors are busy visiting colleges , job shadowing , and taking their college entrance exams . They are also searching for and filling out scholarship applications . I have been busy attending training for Accuplacer ( replaces the COMPASS ) test for community colleges as well as ACT training as all Juniors will take the ACT in place of the NeSA tests in April . The sophomores completed their PreACT testing on November 16th . This will give them an idea of how college ready they are and what specific areas they need to improve on while in high school . It will also give them an idea of where their interests may guide them in their journey . Elementary guidance classes have included topics such as friendship , empathy , and bullying . The classes participated in Red Ribbon Week groups led by National Honor Society members Megan Wood , Joe Ptacnik , Meghan Kratzer , and Tyren Howard . Some of the classes made posters about being drug free while others learned about being drug free while completing a packet .
On October 6 , 2016 , Blaine Goodner and Jacob Swearingen attended a Diesel Career Fair at Central Community College in Hastings . They met with many different businesses that hire the attendees and graduates . They were impressed that many of the businesses offer sponsorships that help students pay for their education . Some of the businesses hire students while attending college so the students get to use their skills they learn during the day at work . The attendees received a tour of the Hastings campus and got to eat lunch on campus . The students were sponsored by Mrs . Poland .
