Superintendent’ s Report NOVEMBER 2016
Public Schools Policy Updates Board Policy Recommendations by NASB( Pages 3-6) Two policies have been forwarded to the district and are recommended by the NASB. They are 509.03 and 804.01 Motion: I recommend the above policies for 1 st reading approval.
Recognition of the LEA for 2017-18 Negotiations( 7) Please see the letter in the packet sent by the LEA for approval of the LEA to be bargaining agent for the LEA. Motion: I recommend that the Litchfield Education Association to be the exclusive bargaining agent for the districts non-supervisory certificated staff for the 2018-19 contract year.
Early Education Center It is recommended by the administrative team and teaching staff that in 2017-18 that the kindergarten room be relocated in the white building with the pre-school, and the 5 th and 6 th grade room be moved to the kindergarten room. This makes sense because the pre-school and kindergarten classes have many functions and learning experiences together. Just as important, the 5 th / 6 th grade room will now be located close to the other elementary classrooms with students similar in age and conceptual development. The board may want to discuss this recommendation before any motion is made. Motion: I recommend moving the kindergarten classroom to the blue building and moving the 5 th / 6 th classroom to the old kindergarten room for the 2017-18 school year.

NESA Testing in Nebraska( 21-24) Although many people wish to compare effectiveness of school districts based upon NESA test scores, the evidence is clear that the scores reflect the overwhelming conclusion that school districts should not be compared when there are a large number of free and reduced students in the district. Board members are asked to read the article about Nebraska’ s test results and Nebraska’ s students. It is well documented and well written. Litchfield is above a 60 % free and reduced participation district. The last two paragraphs summarize the article well.
