n the 1920s, Chicago printers Mather
& Company created a colorful, motivational series of artwork that hung
in businesses and factories all across
the United States. The posters, featuring inspirational messages about self-discipline, loyalty, honesty, and diligence,
promised that workers who followed
these guidelines would be promoted
above their peers. Although the posters
are no longer produced, the maxims live
on today in the way Mark Murrah and
