Top 10 things to succeed personally and professionally

1. Be open to increasing knowledge as well as education. Life is a journey and easier to navigate( the path) if you have a clear understanding of where you want to go and how you want to get there.

2.Take charge of your life. Now that I'm older I have a better understanding that sometimes life just happens. But if you take charge of your life it makes these little hiccups easier to deal with.

3.Stop blaming society for your issues. It's 2013. Get over it and get on with it. No one is going to hand anything over to you.

4.Educate yourself on how to make and manage your money. How long are you willing to let your paycheck dictate your financial security?

5.Learn to love both yourself and others.

6. Be kind to others. Being kind is different from being nice. Show kindness toward people that need it. Even when they think they don't.

7.Put a higher power first and more importantly strive to become a better person.

8. Stand for something-Your integrity and name are everything and just as important as your currency. If

you say you'll do something-follow through.

9.Be of service to others-What can I do for you instead of what can I get from you?

10. Challenge yourself to do and be more

11. Be thankful and grateful for both the good and the bad because there are lessons in both.

12.Stop using the N word. It's never cool and never okay.

Happy Black History Month and welcome to Issue 2 of SBFM. As I move thru the second part of my life and celebrate 3 decades in the business development industry (where did the time go?) I'm reminded of how far I've come since making my first cold call. In those days there weren't any Black people in management (in telemarketing),no room for advancement and no way to make more than minimum wage.I now have a successful practice, written multiple books and movies, launched a successful magazine and radio show. And so I thought I would share my thoughts on being a successful professional Black man and my 10+rules for the next generation. And yes, this list is appropriate even if you're not Black.
