HEALTH CARE eHR Viewer: a valuable tool for patient care Submitted by eHealth Saskatchewan The eHR Viewer delivers electronic patient health information to authorized Saskatchewan health care providers regardless of where the information was originally collected in the province. Access to the eHR Viewer is easy, secure and available from desktop computers, laptops or iPads connected to the eHealth Saskatchewan website. When used in conjunction with other electronic health information such as that available in an EMR (electronic medical record), a more complete picture of your patient’s current health status is generated. This opens the door to more comprehensive health care for your patients. The information currently available in the eHR (electronic health record) Viewer is extensive and includes: Saskatchewan Laboratory Results Repository (SLRR) Laboratory test results from both the Saskatchewan Disease Control Laboratory and most regional laboratory information systems are accessible through the Clinical Documents tab in the eHR Viewer, regardless of which provider has been identified on the test requisition form. General laboratory results, pathology reports, microbiology test reports and transfusion medicine information about your patient can be accessed through the Viewer. Because lab test results in the eHR Viewer are available the second they are entered online no matter where the test was conducted, you are able to make faster clinical decisions about patient care. Pharmaceutical Information Program (PIP) Medication information for a patient as entered into PIP can be accessed using the Viewer and includes 100% of active prescriptions dispensed in Saskatchewan community pharmacies. PIP also includes a prescription history and important information about allergies to both medications and other allergens. Chronic Disease Management – Quality Improvement Program (CDM-QIP) This area of the Viewer makes it possible to view key health 28 SMA NEWS DIGEST | SUMMER 2014 indicators related to patients with chronic conditions including diabetes mellitus and coronary artery disease. Developed through collaboration between eHealth Saskatchewan, the Saskatchewan Medical Association and the Ministry of Health, CDM-QIP features optimal-care flow sheets, a wide range of clinical and patient supports, and physician payments for participation in the program. A number of CDM-QIP reports are only accessible through the Viewer including an Early Adopter Payment, a Patient Profile Report, and a Recommended Care Report. Saskatchewan Immunization Management System (SIMS) Information from this online Public Health repository provides a history of immunizations, reasons why a patient may not be immunized, as well as immunization-associated tests. The capability to download immunization reporting forms and to access information regarding where to send completed reports are added bonus capabilities to this area of the eHR Viewer. Discharge Summaries Discharge Summaries are provided in the Clinical Documents tab of the Viewer and report information critical to recent acute care hospitalizations. Admission – Discharge – Transfer Information The Clinical Encounters area of the Viewer currently provides information related to admissions, discharges and transfers within acute care facilities from most health regions across Saskatchewan. Future Direction of the eHR Viewer Additions to the functionality and content of the eHR Viewer are made two to threwe times a year. Adding diagnostic imaging reports and two more chronic diseases to CDM-QIP (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease + congestive heart failure) is tentatively scheduled for Fall, 2014.
