said Dr. Slavik. “We managed to create a new four-year strategic plan that over the next few months will be written in
a user-friendly format, presented to the membership, and
implemented by SMA staff.”
In addition to leading the SMA into the next phase, guided
by a new strategic plan, Dr. Slavik continues to find satisfaction in his work at Saskatoon East Family Physicians where
he has built a thriving practice. Since moving to Saskatoon
from Newfoundland 17 years ago, and from his home in
South Africa three years before that, he has cared for dozens
of families, and cherishes the long-standing relationships
he has built with them.
“I have watched babies that I delivered grow up into healthy
teenagers,” says Dr. Slavik, “and supported my older patients
through the later stages of their lives.”
“This type of work enables me to care for, and hopefully
make a difference to, a wide variety of people in many different ways,” he adds, “When I retire I would like to think
that I had a positive impact on the lives of my patients and
colleagues, the community in which I was privileged to live
and work, and the health care system as a whole.”
