Trusting the Process of a New Strategic Plan for the Saint Lucia National Trust T he key findings from months of small group meetings, an online survey that was open to the public and one-on-one interviews on the path to a new Strategic Plan for the Saint Lucia National Trust (SLNT) was shared with Councilors and staff of the heritage conservation organization on June 18, 2019 at Bay Gardens Hotel, in Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia. According to Yves Renard, Consultant on the development of the new Strategic Plan for the SLNT, the session was useful as staff and Councilors got an opportunity “to first agree on what would be the Table of Contents, the main elements that we want to cover in this Strategic Plan and then the programming framework -- what are the big things we want to achieve over the next 10 years, and the results we want to get.” The next step is the drafting of the plan which allows Renard to “put flesh” on the structure of the Plan and present a draft to members of the Trust at the end of July 2019. SLNT’s Chairperson, Alison King, said: “We’ve done quite a lot of engagement outside of the membership with a view to understanding what it is the public expects of the Trust and how the public perceives the Trust. We see that we have a lot of work to do in getting the general public more involved with what we do and why we do it, helping us and sharing that responsibility by taking action to advance our mandate.” “The Strategy looks at, among other things, how is it that we can mobilize that kind of support at all levels of the society,” she said. ABOUT THE SLNT: The Saint Lucia National Trust is a membership organization established in 1975 under King added that the Trust on its own is a small organization, hence the reliance on partnerships with other agencies, communities and community groups to take action. 38 SL-YOU | It’s All About Business the Saint Lucia National Trust Act, Chapter 6.02 of the Revised Laws of Saint Lucia to conserve the natural and cultural heritage of Saint Lucia, and to promote values which lead to national pride and love of country. www.slyoumag.com | September-October 2019
