A story that says, ‘I survived’” ~ Craig Scott
16 Oct. 2019: The students of Law and Governance from the 2018 batch of SLS conducted a
presentation of the posters to create an awareness against domestic violence. The event was
scheduled on 16th October 2019 from 4 pm to 6 pm at the D block foyer. The posters were prepared
by them, which were themed on ‘Prevention of Women against Domestic Violence’. The fundamental
objective behind this initiative was to sensitize the public about the current scenario of domestic
violence. It further aimed in educating people on the scope of seeking justice, in-case they themselves
or someone else is the victim of such abuse. The programme was successful in spreading awareness
about different types of abuses faced by women and the associated laws and institutions which
supports and provides assistance to the victim of such violence. Prof. Nigam Dave, Dean and
Director of SLS along with the female faculty members of SLS were invited for the presentation. The
invitees had fruitful discussion with the participants. It was found that the judgments on domestic
violence over the last few years acknowledge it to be a closed-door crime. Hence, it is ignored by the
neighbours and community members. It is still not considered to be a serious offence by the judiciary
in India.
With the above mentioned cause, the students in support of the faculty members initiated the event to
create awareness among all the members of SLS. The event was coordinated by Dr. Sriram Divi,
faculty members of SLS, PDPU.
