Men are from Mars, Women are
from Venus - Book Reading
The event organized by the Department of Languages, Aesthetics and Literature was
an attempt by the department to bring the understanding of gender to the fore. The
last year students who have been reading ‘Gender Studies’ took the book ‘Men are
from Mars, Women are from Venus’ by John Gray as a base to talk about gender and
our social understanding of it. The event took place on October 4, 2017.
The event was graced by the Director of School of Liberal Studies Prof. Nigam Dave,
Prof. Ranjana Harish, Ms. Neeta Khurana, who also moderated the event, Dr. Urmi
Satyan and Dr. Pradeep Mallik, HoD of Mass Communication at SLS, PDPU. There were
35 people in the audience comprising of invited students, and faculty of SLS, PDPU.
Mr. Sarjeet Amin of Semester 7 welcomed the audiences and introduced the faculty
present. Director SLS, Prof. Nigam Dave then welcomed all present and expressed
pride at how his own department has been putting up events regularly each
semester. He thanked Prof. Ranjana Harish and Ms. Neeta Khurana who share the
paper of Gender Studies for Semester 7 for the innovative approach to discussing
gender.
Thereon Ms. Neeta Khurana felicitated Prof. Ranjana Harish. Ms. Pankti Desai
introduced the book “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” by Dr. John Gray
to the audience. Ms. Neeta Khurana moderated the student panel comprising of all
Semester 7 Literature Major and Minor students. All the students were given three to
four minutes each to put forth their ideas and understanding of the text, each
